On Saturday, we went with ISA to visit the city of Rabat, the capital of Morocco. All I can say is that it was so amazing! We visited the old Medina, the gates, a few of the important governmental building in the area, the beach, and some old Roman ruins. The colors and the sights were so amazingly incredible. I cannot describe how breath taking my surrounds were. I tried to convey them in pictures, but you really have to see them to believe me. For the record, the following pictures have been untouched-non of them have been saturated for color effect. See for yourself the wonders of Allah and the world He created...
The adventures started the night before for Taylor and me. We had a wonderful (and much needed) girl’s night where we did the typical thing: ate, watch sappy movies, facials, make fun of each other, pick our noses (just kidding…maybe?! Haha) and so much more! As if that weren’t enough, we sat together for much of the bus ride from Meknes to Rabat where we brought back the 90’s by having a singing/dance party. Of course, the rest of the bus was sleeping, but our giggles and loud singing didn’t bother anyone. She is really my other half, I am so lucky to have met this girl on
this trip!!Many more future adventures to come…
We began our trip with a guided tour of the inner Medina, the gates (which housed the old palace) and some panoramic views of the beach early in the morning.
Our expressive and informative guide! Funny story, Taylor and I saw him after our tour on the beach and we had no idea who he was! He recognized us but we definitely did not recognize him. One our ISA directors told us that he is a veteran surfer from the area-one of the first pioneer Moroccan surfers from the 70's! How cool is that?
We visited the ruins in Chellah. Again, the sites were astounding and breath taking! Most of the ruins were destroyed with an earthquake (the same earthquake that destroyed Volubilis) in the 1700's. A few cool points about Chellah:

LES OUDAIAS
It was really neat to walk around so early in the morning because we got to see a glimpse of the lives that normal people live on a day-to-day basis.
We visited the ruins in Chellah. Again, the sites were astounding and breath taking! Most of the ruins were destroyed with an earthquake (the same earthquake that destroyed Volubilis) in the 1700's. A few cool points about Chellah:
- Chellah is a holy site for Muslims; for the poor Muslims who cannot afford to travel to Mecca or Medina, Chellah has a section roped off especially for Muslims. During Ramadan, the site is closed off to tourism out of respect for the faithful.
- Constantine the Great is buried here (or so our guide said)
- There are so many storks all over the place! If you look up, you will see these giants storks perched in their nests all over the high walls and towers of the monument it is so cool!
- There is a wishing well where travels can throw in a coin and make their wish-I definitely made my wish! Hope it comes true!!
MAKE A WISH!!
I couldn't leave out the beautiful nature scenes from the garden in Chellah! So exotic and so beautiful!
Lastly, we visted La Tour Hassan and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V. Here, I found my white knight on his white horse (literally) and were of course blown away by the grandeur and splendor of the mausoleum. The ceiling of mausoleum is made of 14K gold, and the floor where the three burial monuments are made of imported materials from around the world. Isn't it gorgeous?! Must see in person...plus, we got to see the CUTEST children! :) I'm obsessed with Arab kids...
